Contractors and freelance consultants advised to take a realistic approach

An expert has suggested that contractors and freelance consultants should be considering a practical and sensible approach when setting and achieving their goals.
Author of the blog ‘Startup Lessons Learned’ Eric Ries commented on the Giga Om website that practical strategies could often be more effective than theories or big ideas. He likened a successful entrepreneur to a top poker player who is aware of his/her strengths and limitations, and added that instead of making an exhaustive search for all the smartest, most successful people and copying them it was better to learn to place small bets. He said that one should make sure that a root cause analysis was done each time and work out what had been learned, and to make sure that one had a sense of perspective, understanding that an element of fortune is a crucial factor behind anyone’s success.
The CIPS/Markit Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) recently gave cause for optimism regarding the economic outlook, particularly as it found that manufacturing confidence had increased above the neutral 50 mark.
PMIs (The CIPS/Markit Purchasing Managers’ Index ) cover manufacturing, construction and service sector activity. The indices are derived from constant monthly surveys of business conditions and track what is actually happening at individual company level.
