Good News for IT contractors

01 June, 2009

According to Jay Rollins (writer for the Tech Republic), now is the perfect time to hire an independent IT contractor to work on small projects that might have been put on the back burner. These projects can lead to small wins that make users happy and provide the contractor with some much-needed income.

As many more people join the ranks of freelancing, there are many IT experts who will do short-term projects at reasonable rates. With the current employment market the independent contractor is in a win-win situation and the client is guaranteed a high quality of work.

Top on the list of advantages of hiring contractors would be the specialized and productive expertise you would immediately bring to the job, without any time or cost in training of an employee.

Financial savings are high on the list for employers who may well pay contractors more per hour than they would pay permanent employees, but they still end up paying less when hiring a contractor as the savings include employer-provided benefits, social security, medicare taxes, state and workers compensation insurance, office space, and equipment. These costs when added together will increase a payroll by a minimum of 30%.

Other advantages of hiring contractors include the flexibility and legalities of hiring and firing according to the needs of workloads and projects.
