No cut-backs for Microsoft UK contractors
27 February, 2009
According to the sources available Microsoft has denied that it is instituting cut backs in pay for contract/freelance staff in the UK. The plans to cut rates by 10% and later by 15% were specific to the USA and were being done after discussions were held with some of the impacted agencies. The 10% reduction was based on the economic climate and the need to achieve greater cost reductions within the organization. It has also stated that the conditions of engagement for contractors in the UK would not change.
Mr. Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, was quoted as saying that he would continue to look for ways that the company could reduce costs. He also emphasized the importance of continued investment during the global recession during a conference call with analysts and reporters.
